Saddam's Execution a Crime?

According to Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, the head of the Vatican's Justice and Peace department, executing former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein would be "avenging a crime with another crime".

This is ludicrous. It's called justice not crime. Mass murder is a crime. Saddam, unfortunately, lived to go through a justice system that could have proved him innocent. He is going to be put to death in a quick and humane method. Something his hundreds of thousands of victims never enjoyed.

The execution of saddam is justice. He will never murder again.

Jesus is Born!

Merry Christmas!

Christ Born of Mary

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Glory in the Highest

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them,

“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another,

“Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”

And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

The History of Christmas - Part V

Birth of John the Baptist

Now Elizabeth’s full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son. When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.

Circumcision of John the Baptist

So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias.

His mother answered and said, “No; he shall be called John.”

But they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”

So they made signs to his father—what he would have him called. And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled.

Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God. Then fear came on all who dwelt around them; and all these sayings were discussed throughout all the hill country of Judea. And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying,

“What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.

Zacharias’ Prophecy

Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

“ Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David,
As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
Who have been since the world began,
That we should be saved from our enemies
And from the hand of all who hate us,
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers
And to remember His holy covenant,
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.”

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest;
For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
To give knowledge of salvation to His people
By the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God,
With which the Dayspring from on high has visited[e] us;
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.

The History of Christmas - Part IV

The Song of Mary

And Mary said:

My soul magnifies the Lord,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;

For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

For He who is mighty has done great things for me,

And holy is His name.

And His mercy is on those who fear Him

From generation to generation.

He has shown strength with His arm;

He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He has put down the mighty from their thrones,

And exalted the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

And the rich He has sent away empty.

He has helped His servant Israel,

In remembrance of His mercy,

As He spoke to our fathers,

To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her house. -Luke 1:46-56

The History of Christmas - Part III

Mary Visits Elizabeth

Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

The History of Christmas - Part II

Christ’s Birth Announced to Mary

Then Mary said to the angel,

“How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

And the angel answered and said to her,

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God."

Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Then Mary said,

“Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

The History of Christmas - Part I

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her,

‘Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!’

Then the angel said to her,

‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Do You Start Your Christmas* Shopping Tomorrow?

Here are some interesting things about "Black Friday". The source is Wikipedia so you can take it with a grain of salt.

Black Friday

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the "official" beginning to the Christmas season.

The first use of this term to describe the day after Thanksgiving is not exactly known. There are two popular theories as to its origin.

One theory is that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss for most of the year (January through November) and made their profit during the Christmas season. When this would be recorded in the financial records, common accounting practices use red ink to show negative amounts and black ink would show positive amounts. Black Friday is the beginning of the period where they would no longer have losses (the red) and instead take in the year's profits (the black).

Another theory comes from the fact that shopping experience on this day can be extremely stressful. Employees of retail stores have for years referred to Black Friday in a satirical way, to note the extremely stressful and hectic nature of the day. Heavy traffic and customer demands added to the long hours make it a difficult day.

Notice that Christmas is used instead of the offensive P.C. holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve?

I'm baking pies. I've been baking bourbon pecan and mince meat with bourbon for the past few years. I believe I've found the missing ingredient my aunts used to use but never told anyone.

At any rate, I didn't have a crust for the mince meat. Crust is something to be mastered next year. So off to the store. It was packed! One thing crossed my mind like it does every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve:

DOESN'T ANYBODY DO THEIR THANKSGIVING SHOPPING BEFORE THANKSGIVING EVE?

There we were. 200 men, obviously husbands, standing in line and each with a can of green beans, a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk and a can of cranberry sauce. In other words the things you'd think were impossible to forget since they've all been staples all of our lives.

Since men don't use shopping carts you heard the clank of green beans and cranberry sauce hitting the floor. Naturally they'd stoop to help each other and then you'd hear more cans clanking on the floor. Not me. No sir. I was dropping pie crusts while helping these guys with their cans. I went back 3 times to insure the crusts weren't broken.

THEN

After checking out all of the above for the past hour the clerk has the nerve to get on the intercom and say "need a price check on milk". You hear 200 men in unison cry out:

$2.99 for whole, $3.19 for 2%, $1.49 for bread, green beans are 2 for $0.99 and cranberry sauce is $0.89.

They've been checking this stuff out and they need a price check? What have they been doing all day? Doesn't anything sink in?

Oh good grief... I need a can of green beans... here we go again...

Republicans Don't Need a Big Tent!

There's been some talk on other blogs about the Republicans need a Big Tent. I've only seen the Big Tent as a problem. Different versions of a similar theme is one thing but so far the Big Tent means allowing members to have opposing views. Having different ways to accomplish the same goal is good but not agreeing on the same goal isn't.

Conservatives need unity.
A party can't have it both ways.

To make another point, we voted for our representatives and senators based on what they said they would do. They broke their promises and did the liberal thing. We can't have it. The Conservatives need to get back to the basics.

Vote against big government.
Vote for permanent tax cuts for everybody, including the so-called rich.

Don

Democratic is a process.
Democrat is what they are.

Conservatives are More Charitable than Liberals?

I just received this from my friend Kevin.

Syracuse University professor Arthur C. Brooks is about to become the darling of the religious right wing in America —- and it's making him nervous.

The child of academics, raised in a liberal household and educated in the liberal arts, Brooks has written a book that concludes religious conservatives donate far more money than secular liberals to all sorts of charitable activities, irrespective of income.

In the book, to be released this month, he cites extensive data analysis to demonstrate that values advocated by conservatives —- from church attendance and two-parent families to the Protestant work ethic and a distaste for government-funded social services —- make conservatives more generous than liberals.

The book, titled "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism" (Basic Books, $26), is due for release Nov. 24.

When it comes to helping the needy, Brooks writes: "For too long, liberals have been claiming they are the most virtuous members of American society. Although they usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their callousness in the face of social injustice."

For the record, Brooks, 42, has been registered in the past as a Democrat, then a Republican, but now lists himself as independent, explaining, "I have no comfortable political home."

Since 2003 he has been director of nonprofit studies for Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He has lectured in Spain and Russia and makes about 50 appearances a year at professional conferences around the world.

Brooks is a behavioral economist by training who researches the relationship between what people do —- aside from their paid work —- why they do it, and its economic impact.

He's a number cruncher who relied primarily on 10 databases assembled over the past decade, mostly from scientific surveys. The data are adjusted for variables such as age, gender, race and income to draw fine-point conclusions.

His book, he says, is carefully documented to withstand the scrutiny of other academics, which he said he encourages.

The book's basic findings are that conservatives who practice religion, live in traditional nuclear families and reject the notion that the government should engage in income redistribution are the most generous Americans, by any measure.

Conversely, secular liberals who believe fervently in government entitlement programs give far less to charity. They want everyone's tax dollars to support charitable causes and are reluctant to write checks to those causes, even when governments don't provide them with enough money.

Such an attitude, he writes, not only shortchanges the nonprofits but also diminishes the positive fallout of giving, including personal health, wealth and happiness for the donor and overall economic growth. All of this, he said, he backs up with statistical analysis.

"These are not the sort of conclusions I ever thought I would reach when I started looking at charitable giving in graduate school, 10 years ago," he writes in the introduction. "I have to admit I probably would have hated what I have to say in this book."

Still, he says it forcefully, pointing out that liberals give less than conservatives in every way imaginable, including volunteer hours and donated blood.

In an interview, Brooks says he recognizes the need for government entitlement programs, such as welfare. But in the book he finds fault with all sorts of government social spending, including entitlements.

Repeatedly he cites and disputes a line from a Ralph Nader speech to the NAACP in 2000: "A society that has more justice is a society that needs less charity."

Harvey Mansfield, professor of government at Harvard University and 2004 recipient of the National Humanities Medal, does not know Brooks personally but has read the book.

"His main finding is quite startling, that the people who talk the most about caring actually fork over the least," he said. "But beyond this finding I thought his analysis was extremely good, especially for an economist." Brooks says he started the book as an academic treatise, then tightened the documentation and punched up the prose when his colleagues and editor convinced him it would sell better and generate more discussion if he did.

To make his point forcefully, Brooks admits he cut out a lot of qualifying information.

"I know I'm going to get yelled at a lot with this book," he said. "But when you say something big and new, you're going to get yelled at."

Fall

I love the beauty God gave fall.

The color is magnificent. The temperature is perfect. The air is dense.

Sitting on the patio with Midge in the cool mornings while drinking coffee and eating the pecans that have dropped off the tree is a real treat. Soon there be a hard frost and the persimmons will be ready to eat.

The bird feeder is full of seed and we'll watch the birds. Soon the woodpeckers will be back. A barn owl has been visiting.

There's no more yard work.

What a wonderful time of the year.

Will Republicans Get It?

The chairman of the Republican National Committee, Ken Mehlman, said he was disappointed on a number of counts, following the democrat (they aren't democratic) victories in key House and Senate races. I was discouraged by his comments.

Mehlman said in a FoxNews interview:

"I think the American people clearly sent a message, and it's a message we need to understand and we need to listen to, and we as Republicans need to follow." Sounds good doesn't it. Well, Ken Mehlman said there are three thing Republicans must do:

1. First and foremost, rededicating themselves to their "conservative, reform principles."

I totally agree with this BUT why did they leave them in the first place? We elected them because they ran on conservative issues. Issues we believe were important enough to entrust with our votes.

2. He said Republicans must "try to work where we can on a bipartisan basis with Democrats," while maintaining conservative principles.

This is something I don't get. We didn't elect conservatives to work with democrats, Independents, Libertarians or any other party. They were elected to do the job they said they would do. It's totally up to the other parties to work with us or not. I believe many are willing to do the right thing.

3. He said Republicans must lose the taint of corruption: "We need to remember, people who serve...at any level are people that ought to be about public policy and public service."

Republicans and Conservatives are always going to be held with our feet to the fire. democrats and liberals can get away with corruption because it's expected of them. They're the party of corruption, immorality and deception. Republicans and Conservatives are held to a higher standard.

"there's no reason why Republicans and Democrats can't work together on national security (the threat posed by "that religion of peace") immigration reform and health care reform."

democrats have never been in favor of reform unless reform meant doing what they want. democrats will not work with Conservatives. Their leaders demand every member to march in lock step with their tenets. It's their way or the highway. It's always been that way and it always will be. We could learn from the democrats.

Remember: Democratic is a process. democrats are what they are.

Coffee

Yes, coffee.

Let's all say it together.

Coffee.

Don't you feel good? Ahhh, the lovely bean meant for careful roasting and hot water steeping. It's name brings calming to the nerves.

Coffee smells great.
Coffee tastes great.
Coffee settles the nerves.
Coffee is the best reason for waking up in the morning.
georgia
There are some who drink coffee and those who enjoy coffee. Is there a difference? Of course there is.

By the way, I'm not a coffee drinker!

Those who drink coffee settle for less. They'll drink that bitter watery liquid they serve at diners, convenience stores and truck stops. You know what I mean. The brew that needs 5 creams and 5 sugars per cup just to get it down. Drinking doesn't allow for the time of savoring the roast or the nuances of the flavor. Enjoying creates a trance of elation.

Coffee must be carefully roasted by experts. The beans must be carefully packaged by monks that have taken a vow of silence. They must be delivered in the dead of night in plain brown paper sacks by the light of a full moon. The beans should have exotic names such as Columbian, Kona, Sumatran, Guatemalan and Kilimanjaro.

Coffee.

Juan Valdez doesn't have a clue.

Man-Made Global Warming Hoax

Here is a great column written by Tom Gremillion. I've not added any editorializing. You can check out the link.

Global warming is a hoax, invented in 1988, that combines old myths including limits to growth, sustainability, the population growth time bomb, the depletion of resources, pollution, anti-Americanism and anti-corporate sentiment and, of all things, fear of an ice age. Those that espoused and supported the old myths have joined forced into a new group called “Environmentalists.”

Most environmentalists have no technical or scientific credentials whatsoever. What they have are major news outlets ready and willing to publicize their every utterance regardless of whether or not they are backed up by scientific proof. Atmospheric science requires highly technical knowledge and skills, not possessed by the vast majority of the so-called environmentalists, who yet feel qualified to demand that human activity subjugate itself to the whims of their new deity, Mother Nature.

Environmentalists claim that the Earth’s atmosphere is getting hotter. They claim that the polar icecaps and glaciers will melt and sea levels will rise over two hundred feet, flooding most coastal cities. They claim that many areas of the Earth will turn into deserts. They make all these claims but cannot substantiate them with real scientific evidence. Parts of the polar icecap and glaciers are melting but other areas of the polar icecaps and glaciers are thickening. The environmentalists base their “proof” of the existence of global warming on the melting areas but are strangely silent, even militant to the point of violence, if anyone mentions the areas that are thickening, and those thickening areas are many.

In the past, there have been many times when the global mean temperatures were warmer, sometimes much warmer and colder, much colder than they are now. Global mean temperatures are cyclical with the seasons but also with other normal cycles, as they have been for the entire history of the Earth. Scientific data from ice cores, tree rings and other indicators of global mean temperatures prove this. Human activity has never been the cause of these global temperature swings as the “global warming” advocates claim. If human activity was the cause, where were the SUVs, the power plants and industries in our historical past? They did not exist. If human activity was not the cause of these global temperature swings, what was?

The energy output of the Sun is far greater in one second than human activity could produce in a million years. The Earth rotates around the Sun. Its orbit is slightly elliptical. The energy reaching the Earth from the Sun varies slightly as the distance from the Sun to the Earth varies due to its elliptical orbit. The Sun activity increases and decreases with fluctuations in the solar flares emitted by the Sun. Differences in these fluctuation rates cause increases and decreases of solar energy hitting the Earth. This causes fluctuations in the global mean temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere.

In 2004, the energy from massive solar flares bombarded the Earth with solar energy. This solar energy caused heating of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. Most of the energy of the solar flare eruptions dissipated into space. The amounts of energy ejected were massive, much greater than normal. Had the Earth received a full blast of the solar energy from one of the numerous flare eruptions in 2004, the consequences to life on Earth could have been disastrous. The higher than usual amounts of energy that struck the Earth’s atmosphere did have their effects, however, including some heating of the atmosphere.

Then there is the eruption of volcanoes, such as Mt. St. Helens, ejecting dust and ash into the Earth’s atmosphere. The amount of dust and ash in the atmosphere varies the amount of energy that can cause heating or cooling of the Earth’s atmosphere. Volcanoes also eject the kind of compounds that environmentalists call greenhouse gases. A single eruption the size of the Mt. St. Helens eruption released more of these gases, dust and ash into the atmosphere than all such emissions by human activity since the beginning of recorded human history. And there are numerous volcanic eruptions yearly.

The oceans are also a major source of greenhouse gases, as are trees. Trees and other vegetation take in carbon dioxide and give off other gases such as methane, a major greenhouse gas, and a host of other compounds, many of which are also greenhouse gases. Decaying vegetation also gives off methane gas. Studies of smog in the Los Angeles basin indicate that over 90% of the smog is generated by the vegetation in the area. To aid in perpetuating the hoax, however, environmentalists, aided by major news media outlets, censored and suppressed this study.

Studies have shown that greenhouse gases produced by human activity accounts for around 1 percent of the gases in the atmosphere. The total elimination of human generated greenhouse gases would have a negligible effect on Earth’s global mean atmospheric temperatures. The elimination of all U.S. gasoline powered vehicles would reduce worldwide “greenhouse” emissions by less than 0.2%.” What would be the effect on global mean temperatures? None. Doubling of manmade greenhouse emissions above current levels would increase the global mean temperature by one degree Centigrade, which is within the normal range of temperature swings.

It is the fluctuations of the Earth’s orbit around the sun, volcanic eruptions, the emission of gases by oceans and trees, all natural occurrences, that cause rises and declines in global mean temperatures, i.e., “global warming” and “global cooling,” not human activity.

Satellite data taken over the past 25 years indicate no surface or atmospheric warming. If anything there has been a very slight cooling, on the order of 0.01 degree Centigrade.

Recently, astronomers have noticed a thinning of the polar icecaps on Mars.

Is this “global warming, Mars style” and do Martian SUVs, power plants, and industries cause it? Hardly, but the “environmentalists” think so. Some even blame it on us here on Earth.

Global warming IS a hoax. Those claiming that “global warming” is real have an agenda other than saving the planet from human activity.

The Cursing Parrot

Jimmy received a parrot for his birthday. The parrot was fully grown, with a very bad attitude and a worse vocabulary. Every other word was a swear word; those that weren't cursing were very rude.

Jimmy tried to change the bird's attitude by constantly saying polite words, playing soft music-anything he could think of. Nothing worked.

He then tried yelling at the bird, but the bird got worse. He shook the bird, and the bird got madder and ruder.

Finally, in a moment of desperation, Jimmy put the parrot in the freezer. For a few moments he heard the bird swearing, squawking, kicking and screaming and then, suddenly, there was absolute quiet.

Jimmy was frightened that he might have actually hurt the bird, and quickly opened the freezer door. The parrot calmly stepped out onto Jimmy's extended arm and said, "I'm sorry that I offended you with my language and my actions, and I ask your forgiveness. I will endeavor to correct my behavior".

Jimmy was astounded at the changes in the bird's attitude and was about to ask what had changed him, when the parrot continued, "May I ask what the Chicken did?"

Shock! Horrors! Unbelieveable!

Last night was the first time in memory that I ever missed a world series game. This is so out of character. Instead of watching the game I went to see the Turtle Island String Quartet! I had completely forgotten about the series.

A mental slip like this calls for drastic measures. I'm calling the doctor and making an appointment for a psychiatric assesment.

If it were anything but a world series game.......

I, Me, Mine

I, Me, Mine.
(with apologies to George Harrison)

All through the day
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine.
All through the night
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine.
George Harrison

Captains log: Sometime in 2004.
A few years ago I noticed the possibility that I might be self-centered. It wasn't an overpowering awareness that sent me to my knees begging forgiveness. It was subtle. I noticed I had a tendency to cut people off in traffic, to scream at stop sign runners and a few other things like rushing to the checkout stand in order to beat the little old lady with two items while I only had a basket full. Okay, maybe it wasn't a tendency. It was the way I acted. Good grief, I'm a sinner. Thankfully the thought left as quickly as it came.

The selfishness of the world had always been obvious. Things like cutting someone off in traffic, not opening doors for others and letting kids run wild in restaurants are rampant. Even I did it and knew full well that I was in the wrong every time. Hey, I'm not perfect. I'll try and do better. And I did! Except in school parking lots. Oh, and at stop signs. But I didn't cut off little old ladies at the grocery store.... as often.

Then came the clinker. The one thing that began to drive me crazy. Everybody started talking about themselves. Really, they did. Okay, it wasn't like everybody in the world suddenly started talking about themselves. I started to notice that virtually every sentence was about "I, Me, Mine". It was awful. "Listen to 'em", I said, "I this. I that. Me, me, me. They all sound like the gulls on "Finding Nemo!" MINE! MINE! MINE! MINE! MINE!"

I Thought to myself,

"CAN'T ANYBODY SAY A SENTENCE WITHOUT USING A FIRST PERSON SINGULAR PRONOUN?"

I was soooooo glad that I wasn't like them. (Luke 18:11) Or was I? I started listening to myself. I used FPSP's, too! Not a little bit. A lot.

"I'M JUST LIKE THEM! ARGGGGH!"

"Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others." (Phil. 2:3-4)

Captains Log: 47 days before Lent 2006.
The pastor has asked us to participate during Lent. The idea was to give up something during the 40 days of Lent. Not just something that wouldn't be missed like not going to Africa to be a missionary or to not eat spinach. It has to be something dear or important to us. It's supposed to be a reminder that God gave up His Son (John 3:16) for us.

Guess what I gave up.... That's right! First person singular pronouns. And peanut butter. Hey, I love peanut butter! Giving up FPSP's wasn't easy to do. I had to think about everything I was going to say in order not to use a FPSP. Imagine having to think before you speak. Going an hour was hard enough, but I was going to go 40 days. There were many thoughts about God giving up His Son.

Thinking about others was the other side of the coin. As Philippians 2:4 says,

"Look not every man on his own things, but every man also
on the things of others.”

In order to not use FPSP's another person had to come into the picture. It was no longer "my house" it was "our house". Not "what will I have for dinner " but "what will we have for dinner". The subject could no longer be me but others.

There was no way I could go that long without using FPSP's. I was a failure but the lessons learned were invaluable. Next year I'll have to give something else up for Lent because I'm going to continue the practice of not talking about myself. Maybe I'll give up peanut butter.

Try it. You'll hate it but you'll love the lessons.

FLASH: The United States of America is not a Democracy.

Ladies and Gentlemen hold on to your hats. There is truth that the USA is not a democracy. We are a Representative Republic.

SAY WHAT?

That's right. We vote for senators and representatives and it's up to them to carry our wishes because we vote for them.

A democracy is mob rule. The USA is not governed by mob rule.

SAY WHAT, again?

Allow me to evince you with a brilliant analogy.

A ship carrying 5 disgusting males and 1 charming and beautiful female wrecks and they are stranded on a deserted island.
One man decides to ask the woman for her hand in marriage. She turns him down because he's disgusting. The others follow suit and are similarly declined. The men declare that they are going to vote in order to instigate compelled marriage. It will be fair because everyone will be allowed to vote regardless of age or mental capacity. The vote is 5 to 1.

Get it?

Got it?

I Read the News Today..... October 5, 2006

Can you believe it? Amber Mangum, a seventh grader, was approached by an employee of the D.D. Eisenhower Middle School, in in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and told to stop reading her Bible during her free time at school or face disciplinary actions.

Huh? In the U.S. of A? Sad but true.

What does the U.S. Constitution say?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
It's clear as day. How in the world can anybody say that what she did was unconstitutional?

Well, some responsible attorneys for The Rutherford Institute have filed a civil rights lawsuit in defense of the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of Amber. Students are allowed to read religious texts during their free time because it's constitutional.

Hate groups hope otherwise.

Group Insists Martin Luther King Was a Republican -- 10/02/2006

This article makes total sense. The democrat party has always been the party of racism. Now they're the party of the plantation. To the democrats the government is the plantation and they want to keep us completely dependent upon it. No thank you, democrats.

By Kate Monaghan
CNSNews.com Correspondent

(CNSNews.com) - A radio ad sponsored by the National Black Republican Association (NBRA), a grassroots activist group, not only touts Martin Luther King, Jr. as a Republican but also states that 'Democrats passed those black codes and Jim Crow laws. Democrats started the KKK,' and 'Democrats fought all civil rights legislation from the 1860s to the 1960s.'

The radio ad begins running in Florida on Monday. It has already run in Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Georgia, causing controversy among Democrats as well as Republicans.

According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Senate campaign of Maryland's Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele asked the NBRA to stop running the ad and called it 'insulting to Marylanders.'

The problem with the ad, according to Kevin Martin, a member of the conservative black leadership network Project 21, is not that the ad isn't factually true but that the NBRA is using a dead man to further its cause, something he said is a Democratic, not a Republican tactic.

'We do not need to stick words into a dead man's mouth,' Martin told Cybercast News Service, 'no, not for our policies. Our policies do win at the end of"

Radical Christianity??

Rosie O'Donnell once again shows that she's safe from the threat of being accused of having any trace of the ability to think rationally.

She actually said that radical Christianity is as great of a threat as radical Islam. One would think she got her information from reading comic books but their academic qualities are too much for her to comprehend.

Does anyone have any idea where she could have come up with such nonsense? Maybe from Katie Couric?

She says weren't attacked by a nation. Does the Taliban and Afghanistan come to anyones mind? Afghanistan was, duh, ran by the Taliban. The Taliban trained al queda in the country they ran. Does anybody remember President Bush telling the Taliban to turn over the al queda members that were responsible for the crime of murdering innocent people. Does anybody remember the Taliban handing them over? Of course not.

Does anybody remember who the U.S. attacked? It was the Taliban and al queda. Anybody that was an innocent bystander and was killed can rest assured they weren't targets. Al queda targets the innocent.

Christianity doesn't murder. Islam does.

The real tragedy is that there are people that think she's right.

Living Wage May Not Be the Solution

Have you heard the news? A study issued by the Employment Policies Institute says the so-called "living wage", A.K.A. a higher minimum wage, may be more of a hindrance than a help. The study has found that prices tend to surge as unemployment rises in municipalities that require employers to pay more than the federal or state minimum wages.

NO KIDDING???

Robert Strauss, an economics professor at Carnegie-Mellon University and the guy who conducted the study for the Employment Policies Institute said, "Municipalities that adopt living wage ordinances holding various things constant, have on average ten percent lower employment after adoption."

In case you don't get it, this means that employers have to let employees go in order to pay the other employees the mandatory higher wage. This means that unemployment goes up.

Strauss admitted that he was surprised by the outcome of his study. Now if only congress can figure it out.

Chicago's Mayor Daley Defies Liberal Thinking

In what may be the first time in recent history a democrat actually did the right thing instead of following the way the wind blows.

Daley vetoed a law that would have re
quired retailers earning over $1 billion in annual sales and stores with at least 90,000 square feet of space to pay workers at least $10 an hour in wages plus $3 in benefits by mid-2010.

He
had campaigned against the measure for months because he claimed it would drive jobs and desperately needed development from some of Chicago's poorest neighborhoods and cause most retail giants to abandon the city.

Hooray for Mayor Daley.

9/11/2001 Where Were You?

Five years ago today the single worst act of terrorism committed on U.S. soil, nearly 3,000 people died when two hijacked jetliners crashed into New York's World Trade Center, causing the twin towers to fall, a commandeered jetliner smashed into the Pentagon and a fourth hijacked plane crashed in western Pennsylvania. In each case, the cause of the terror were practitioners of that "religion of peace".

I was fishing with my father in law. Where were you?

Quotes of the Week

Here are some great quotes from the news.

“For the president to articulate who the enemy is so clearly and unambiguously is a huge step forward. You cannot diagnose and treat a disease without first identifying and naming it. So, a strategist cannot defeat an enemy without first identifying it and naming it.” —Daniel Pipes
“We should not be apologetic or defensive in defining the problems of terrorism.” —British Prime Minister Tony Blair, suggesting that the tie between terrorism and Islam can not be ignored

“Humiliation and hate go together. Why humiliation? Because a once-proud, dynamic culture in the forefront of world civilizations, and still carrying a message of their own superiority to ”infidels“ today, is painfully visible to the whole world as a poverty-stricken and backward region, lagging far behind in virtually every field of human endeavor... There is no way that they can catch up in a hundred years, even if the rest of the world stands still. And they are not going to wait a hundred years to vent their resentments and frustrations at the humiliating position in which they find themselves.” —Thomas Sowell
Of course you won't hear this on CNN or NPR.

The Founding Fathers Said...

Here are some quotes that our Founding Fathers made. You may want to consult a dictionary to learn what some of the words meant during the time the quotes were made.

"[W]e ought to deprecate the hazard attending ardent and
susceptible minds, from being too strongly, and too early
prepossessed in favor of other political systems, before they
are capable of appreciating their own."

-- George Washington (letter to the Commissioners of the District of Columbia, 28 January 1795)

"Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants
thereof - Lev. XXV, v. X"

Inscription on the Liberty Bell, from Leviticus 25:10

"With hearts fortified with these animating reflections, we most
solemnly, before God and the world, declare, that, exerting the
utmost energy of those powers, which our beneficent Creator hath
graciously bestowed upon us, the arms we have compelled by our
enemies to assume, we will, in defiance of every hazard, with
unabating firmness and perseverance employ for the preservation
of our liberties; being with one mind resolved to die freemen
rather than to live as slaves."

-- John Dickinson and Thomas Jefferson (Declaration of the Cause
and Necessity of Taking up Arms, 6 July 1775)

Just a thought about the last one. It's funny that some quote Thomas Jefferson as someone that thinks God should be separate from government. The above quote seems to say the opposite.

Do You Know if You'll Go to Heaven?

Do you ever ask yourself that question? It's one of those questions that begs an answer. Maybe you haven't thought too much about it but what do you think? Will you go to Heaven?

Here are some facts from the Bible.
1. Heaven is a free gift. Romans 6:23
2. Heaven can't be earned and it isn't deserved. Ephesians 2:8-9. That means no matter what you've done, it isn't good enough.
3. Man is a sinner. Romans 3:23
4. Man can't save himself. Ephesians 2:8-9
5. God is Love 1 John 4:8
6. God is just and must punish sin. Exodus 34:7
7. Jesus is God and man. John 1:1
8. Jesus died for your sins. John 3:16
9. You must accept these facts by faith.

Any questions? donsblogger@excite.com
I'd love to talk to you about this.

Fish is Safe to Eat! PETA Loses Again!

Are you sick and tired of the Food Police? I am. Everytime I turn around some fear monger is trying to use scientific manipulation and misinformation to keep me from eating fish, beef, pork and poultry; otherwise know as the four basic food groups.

Thank goodness for the Center for Consumer Freedom. They actually go out of their way to use facts instead of fiction to prove their points. They go so far as to consult scientists and medical doctors instead of hollywood stars for their data.

The latest reports are in and salmon and tuna are safe to eat. Children don't have to worry about mercury poisoning.

Physicians Committe for (ir)Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is probably hoping you didn't catch the news this morning. The PETA-linked animal rights group, dedicated to eliminating animal products like meat, dairy, and fish from Americans' diets, was handed a decisive defeat Wednesday in federal court. Read more about it by clicking onto the link at the top of the page.

Benjamin Franklin may have been responsible for the first political cartoon in America. The cartoon's caption was "Join or Die" and depicted a snake's severed parts, which Franklin used as an analogy for the American colonies.

I Read the News Today.....

This morning I read an article by Patrick Goodenough for the Cybercast News Service. He wrote that during a Monday morning news conference in Beirut, the French foreign minister, Philippe Douste-Blazy, said that Iran was “a great country, a great people and a great civilization which is respected and which plays a stabilizing role in the region."

Anybody who's given the smallest amount of interest about the turmoil in the Middle East knows that Iran has been playing a big role in supporting Lebanon's attacks against Israel. It's so blatant that CNN has had to report it; much to their chagrin I'm sure.

How can a nation as unstable as

Iran play a stabilizing role?

Let’s look at the facts and see if we can find out whether or not there is any reason to accept the French foreign minister’s statement.

  • Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called repeatedly for Israel's annihilation.
  • Iran also is at odds with the international community over its nuclear programs.
  • Hizballah's representative in Iran, Abol-Hassan Zo'aiter, told a gathering in Tehran that his organization would put into effect the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's call for the "cancerous tumor" (Israel) to be eliminated.

Maybe the minister means that Iran is stable in that it wants Israel wiped off the face of the earth. I think he's nuts. He should stop reading fiction and start listening to Fox News.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Israeli officials were bewildered by Douste-Blazy's remarks about Iran, and quoted one diplomatic source in Jerusalem as asking "what planet is he on?"

I’m wondering the same thing.

Predicting When Jesus is Coming

Mankind has tried to predict Jesus' return since He ascended into Heaven some 2,000 years ago. Prognosticators, in all their knowedge, signs, and indications have managed to miss it consistantly. They should have listened to Jesus because He said:

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.(Matt 24:36).
Score
Jesus 1
Prognosticators 0

When I was a child I remember the Jehova Witnesses predicted the coming of Jesus. They missed it just like they did in the early part of the 20th century.
Edgar C. Whisenhunt reportedly made a quarter million dollars from his best-selling book, "88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988". It didn't happen. There have been many, many attempts to predict the coming of Jesus and all of them were wrong.

C.S. Lewis makes it very clear. Here's a passage from "The Worlds Last Night: An Other Essays:

"Clearly, no one wishes to say anything that will [awaken] mass hysteria. We must never speak...about 'the Day' [of the Second Coming] without emphasizing again and again the utter impossibility of prediction. We must try to show them that that impossibility is an essential part of the doctrine. If you do not believe Our Lord's words, why do you believe in His return at all? And if you do believe them must you not put away from you, utterly and forever, any hope of dating that return?

His teaching on the subject quite clearly consisted of three propositions: (1) That He will certainly return; (2) That we cannot possibly find out when; (3) And that therefore we must always be ready for Him."

Many like to argue whether Jesus is going to return before the tribulation, in the middle of the tribulation, or the end of the tribulation. I used to get caught up in the argument in a big way. Now I don't worry about it. Jesus clearly says that nobody knows. I'm going to trust Him and be ready. You should, too.

Did You Know?

Here are some interesting facts that everybody wants to know. OK, maybe just me.

Who Invented Styrofoam?
German drugstore operator Eduard Simon discovered polystyrene in 1839, isolating the substance from the natural product resin.

In 1922, German, organic chemist Hermann Staudinger published his theories on polymers, stating that natural rubbers were made up of long repetitive chains of monomers that gave rubber its elasticity. He also wrote that the materials manufactured by the thermal processing of styrene were similar to rubber. In 1953, Staudinger won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

Styrofoam was invented in 1954 by Ray McIntire of Dow Chemical Co. He combined styrene with isobutylene, a volatile liquid, under pressure. The result was foam polystyrene, 30 times lighter than regular polystyrene.

Styrofoam® is a trademarked name, the real name of the product is foamed polystyrene.

Don't Call Me!

The 'Do Not Call Registry' is a great benefit to mankind. The only regret is that it wasn't implemented immediately after Don Ameche invented the telephone. The moment it opened for business we were among the first to register our phone numbers. The reason was clear and simple. We didn't want to be bothered.

Believe it or not the telephones in our household were never intended as a convenience for telemarketers.

Much to our chagrin a new telemarketing is group abusing our right to privacy. They start calling in the morning and don't stop until late at night harassing us with automatically dialed recorded messages and occasionally with real people. These people infringing upon our privacy are POLITICIANS.

Yes indeed, those extraordinary Snake Oil salesmen and saleswomen (notice the offensive term salesperson was not used) whose message hasn't changed for centuries are infringing on our privacy. Personally, It bothers me tremendously that these arrogant politicians would think for one moment that anyone really wants to hear their biased message and let alone over a telephone. Most of them don't have the decency show their numbers on Caller ID so we can know whom we're ignoring.

Those calls are probably coming from India.

I'm aware that they've made a loop hole for 'not for profit' groups and themselves. But wouldn't be to their advantage if they would simply show respect and call only those who don't appear on the Do Not Call Registry?

I've personally called a few politicians in advance to let them know that we don't want to receive any calls from them. We'll be hard pressed to trust anyone with our vote who won't respect our privacy.

That's how I see it.

Conflict in the Middle East

I recently read a great article by Dennis Prager. He succinctly made the problems in the Middle East very easy to understand. His explanation of the conflict is contained in a nutshell:

"The Arab and other Muslim enemies of Israel (for the easily confused, this does not mean every Arab or every Muslim) want Israel destroyed. That is why there is a Middle East conflict. Everything else is commentary.

The Middle East conflict is difficult to solve, but it is among the simplest conflicts in history to understand."

You should take the time to read his article in the Jewish World Review.

http://jewishworldreview.com/0706/prager071806.php3

Here are some of the facts he mentioned for the conflict in the Middle East

  • Iran, Palestine, Hizbollah, Hamas, and Muslim supporters all over the world want the Jewish state annihilated.
  • 1947- 48 The Arab states tried to destroy the tiny Jewish state formed by the United Nations partition plan.
  • 1967 June 5 – 10 Egypt, Syria, and Jordan tried to destroy Israel in what became known as the Six-Day War.
  • 1967 September 1 Arab countries convened in Khartoum, Sudan, and announced their famous Three no’s to Israel: "No peace, No recognition, No negotiations."
  • 1973 Egypt invaded the Israeli-held Sinai Peninsula
  • 1977 November Anwar Sadat visited Israel and addressed its parliament in Jerusalem.
  • 1978 Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty in return for which Israel gave all of the oil-rich Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt.
  • 1981 Sadat was assassinated by Egyptian Muslims, a killing welcomed by most Arabs, including the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization). Why welcomed? Because Sadat had done the unforgivable — recognized Israel and made peace with it.
  • 2000 July 11-14 Israel's Camp David offer of a Palestinian state for Palestinian peace was rejected because most Palestinians and their Arab and Muslim supporters don't want a second state. They want Israel destroyed. They admit it. Only those who wish Israel's demise and the willfully naive do not.

The extremist New York Times foreign affairs columnist, Thomas Friedman, wrote two weeks ago:

"The Palestinians could have a state on the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem tomorrow, if they and the Arab League clearly recognized Israel, normalized relations, and renounced violence. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know Israel today."
If a harsh critic of Israel like Friedman can get it so can anybody else.

According to Prager, If you ask almost anyone living in the Middle East why there is a Middle East War, in English, they will assume you are either an academic, a Western news reporter, a diplomat, or a "peace activist." They will assume you are gullible and will tell you that it's because of "Israeli occupation" or "the Zionist lobby."

But they know it isn't. And it never was.

New York Times - All the news that's left... far left.

The New York Times irresponsibily reported on a secret financial-monitoring program used to trace terrorists. The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Peter King, is urging the Bush administration to seek criminal charges against The New York Times.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) blasted the newspaper's decision last week to report that the Treasury Department was working with the CIA to examine messages within a massive international database of money-transfer records.

"I am asking the Attorney General to begin an investigation and prosecution of The New York Times, the reporters, the editors, and the publisher," said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. "We're at war, and for the Times to release information about secret operations and methods is treasonous."

The NYT appears to siding with Al Queda. As long as the current administration is in charge the NYT will do everything in it's power to be an enemy of the USA.

32 Million Unregistered Voters
Can you believe it? That's the number of people who reported to the U.S. Census Bureau that they were not registered to vote in 2004. Here are some of the reasons given for not registering to vote.

  1. 15 million gave as a reason the fact that they were not interested in the election or politics. That's nearly half!
  2. 6 million said they had failed to meet the registration deadlines.
Less frequent responses for not registering were:
  1. Voting ineligibility.
  2. Permanent illness or disability. I don't get this one
  3. Not knowing how to register
  4. Feeling that their vote would not make a difference
  5. Lacking residency requirements

300 Times Bigger 40 Years Later

From its modest $1 billion budget in 1966, the Medicaid program’s cost has rocketed. It now costs taxpayers approximately $300 billion a year.

In other words, the more money spent to fight so-called poverty puts more people on welfare (government assistance). The total population hasn’t grown 300 times its size. Wasn’t the opposite supposed to happen?
Perhaps Medicaid was created for buying votes.

I Read the News Today..... Hooboy...

Have you heard the latest? A homosexual activist group at NYU is accusing the Bush administration of spying on them and anti-war protesters. The anti-war group is Students Against War at the University of California at Santa Cruz. The punch line is that the spokesman for the group admits he has no proof.

A leftist hate group accusing somebody without proof? Gee, that's a big surprise.

Want more?

Did you hear that Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow (some call it Monochrome) Colition returned a $10,000 check from British Petroleum (BP)? JJ says BP doesn't employ enough minorities nor do they have enough owners of BP stations. JJ is probably bluffing and is holding out for a larger extortion check from BP.

We'll here's the good news. BP may decide all together to stop paying extortion money to JJ and the RC. Many NYSE companies are finally realizing that paying extortion money doesn't help the companies because JJ has little or no effect on the purchasing power of blacks or any other minority group.

Among other groups that demand extortion payments are Greenpeace and Sierra Club.

I hope the rest of us realize that extortion is wrong and that we'll stop funding groups that use extortion.

Okay, one more...

From the AP. Delegates of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are debating whether to adopt "gender-inclusive" language to replace the traditional "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit," wire reports said. A panel is actually studying what is called "fresh ways to speak of the mystery" of the Trinity.

One reason is that language limited to the Father and Son "has been used to support the idea that God is male and that men are superior to women," the panel said.

The gender-inclusive options include "Mother, Child, and Womb," "Creator, Savior, Sanctifier," and "Rock, Redeemer, Friend," the AP reported.

They say
Conservatives (rational thinkers) object to this and believe that the church should stick close to the way God is named in the Bible.

Two professors at the Presbyterians' Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Andrew Purves and Charles Partee, said there is potential danger that "we not only lose the ground for our language for God, we in fact lose the Trinity. We lose God."

Hooray for the two professors at PPTS.

Going to the Doctor

I remember a visit to the doctor's office a while back. Something happened to my back during a weekend with Martha (wife) that caused me to look like Quasimodo and feel worse. I called the doctor and made an appointment. The appointment writer downer gave orders to arrive 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork.

Upon arrival I approached a window where the beast was housed. She (it looked female) handed over scads of forms to fill out and at least 5,000 questions to answer in the brief span of 30 minutes. Little did I know that it would be plenty of time.

With the help of Martha we completed everything and I returned it to the beast. She told me to sit down and wait and she'd call when the doctor was ready to see me.

See Don. See Don Wait. Wait, wait, wait.

45 minutes elapsed since feeding the beast 35 pounds of paper and the ink from 3 boxes of Bic pens. Unacceptable, I thought. I approached the window that seemingly provided protection for infirmed humans and told her that the appointment was for 10:15 am and it was 11:00 am. I was informed that the doctor was usually this late and it wasn't a problem. I told her I didn't care about what was 'usually' and that it was a problem. We had words.... lots of words....

I waited..... and waited....

FINALLY my name was called and we were ushered into the examination room. After a few minutes the door opened. In walked this girl dressed incredibly sloppy with a huge lab coat. Why do they dress like that? This nurse, or tech, started asking the same questions I spent all that time answering 30 minutes before the appointment. I reluctantly answered them. She scribbled on a sheet of paper attached to a clipboard in large illegible balloon letters and left. I guessed that I'd be seeing the doctor next.

WRONG!

In walks this guy that could be mistaken for a doctor...

"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm the PA"
"Huh?"
"The PA. Physicians Assistant."
"Where's the doctor?"

He started playing doctor and proceeded asking the same 5,000 questions...

"I answered those already. They're on the chart".

He kept asking THEN proceeded to poke and prod my body. I couldn't stand it. Lastly, he scribbled on a pad using illegible hieroglyphics only he could interpret and left.

So far over 45 minutes had been spent in the exam room and no doctor had been sighted.

I WANT TO SEE THE DOCTOR!

When the overbooked and time challenged M.D. finally made his glorious appearance he picked up the chart and began asking the same questions the nurse and PA had previously asked.

DOESN'T ANYBODY LOOK AT THE FORMS I SPENT HALF THE MORNING FILLING OUT?

After asking questions He proceeded to poke and prod my body. Occasionally he'd grunt something in Latin (I think) and ask stupid questions like,

"Does that hurt?"
"Of course it hurts. You just poked me."

The doctors examination, writing of the prescription, and asking the if I had any questions took almost 10 minutes. Why was I there for 2 hours if he was only going to spend 10 minutes?

Needless to say, I was not happy. After pondering this horror story and thanking God I didn't have to remove my clothes, I believe I've found a solution to this silliness. I'm starting a new medical service called

"Don's Patient's Assistant"

It's truly ingenious. You call the doctor and make an appointment. Immediately, you place a call to "Don's Patient's Assistant" and give us the details. When it's time for your appointment "Don's Patient Assistant" will get to the doctor's office early, fill out the forms, and answer all the stupid questions that nobody is going to look at.

During that time you'll be able to stay at work, take a nap in your car, or visit the coffee shop. Instead of non productive down time you can take care of business, read your newspaper, or keep up with e-mail via your wireless.

Meanwhile the "Don's Patient's Assistant" is telling anybody who'll listen where it hurts, how much you've puked, and what you had for breakfast. When the time comes for the doctor to see you "Don's Patient's Assistant" will call you via your wireles and you're on your way. By the time you get to the exam room the doctor will almost be ready to see you and will ask you all the questions your assistant has answered to deaf ears and nobody will know the difference.

Seriously, I don't know about you but we pay insurance to see a doctor, NOT a P.A. It gripes me to spend money on something and not get what I paid for, i.e. a doctor and not some wannabe play doctor.

From now on I'm making it a point to tell the receptionist that I will not be seen by the pa. If the doctor won't see me I'll go elsewhere. I'm paying for a doctor and I expect to see a doctor.

Marriage Amendment - A disappointment...

Today congress did not pass the Marriage Amendment. The vote was close which means somebody wasn’t listening to their constituents. Looking at every state that has allowed a vote in the issue you can clearly see that society has not approved it.

Congress doesn't get it, which shouldn't surprise anybody.

Some members have tried to use the reason that it's a right. They are wrong. Most liberals call everything a right. They, too, are wrong.

As the great Thomas Sowell has said, marriage is actually a restriction upon the rights we already have.

WHAT!!!!! you scream as your knee is jerked into the bottom of the desk and possibly in need of medical attention.

There are many attempts at reason to approve homosexual marriage. None of them are viable.

Adoption is one fallacy. Marriage doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to adopt a child any more than eating a doughnut makes you a police officer. Adoption is based on your ability to prove you are capable of being a good parent.

Passing property or money to another isn't any easier when you're married. At the moment couples living together, it doesn't matter whether they're straight or have decided to become homosexual, can create any manner of arrangements with their property that they desire.

If you're married there are some barriers to this. In California, for instance, if you purchase something 50% of it automatically becomes your spouses. But what would you expect from the land of fruits and nuts.

So what's the real reason for approving homosexual marriage?

It's simply to have their deviant lifestyle accepted by society. There can be no other reason.

Hopefully it will never happen and Congress will awaken from their stupor and support the Marriage Amendment.
